The Moray Honey Company

Who We Are

I’m Yogi, the head beekeeper and maker behind The Moray Honey Company, a family-run venture inspired by a love for nature and beekeeping. I began this journey in 2018 when I inherited three hives from my father, and together we envisioned a business that would produce pure, local honey while celebrating Scotland’s natural beauty. Although we lost him in early 2021, his passion lives on in every hive, every jar, and now through my daughter, Thalia, who is proudly learning the art of beekeeping.

At The Moray Honey Company, we are driven by sustainability and a deep respect for Scotland’s landscapes. Our bees are more than honey makers; they play a vital role in supporting local biodiversity, foraging across wildflower fields that impart a unique depth of flavour to our honey. Each jar reflects the changing seasons and the richness of local flora—from clover to heather, all gathered within our apiaries across Morayshire and the Highlands.

We’re not just beekeepers; we’re caretakers of the land. Every jar you purchase supports our bee-friendly, small-scale operation, dedicated to protecting Scotland’s ecosystems while providing you with the purest honey, crafted as nature intended.

The Process

Our honey goes straight from hive to jar, preserving all the natural goodness, rich aroma, and health benefits—exactly as nature intended. Each jar’s unique flavour and colour are shaped by the specific flowers the bees forage from, resulting in a honey with the rich diversity of the surrounding flora.

FLY & Forage

Honey bees travel up to three miles to gather nectar, returning to the hive where it’s naturally transformed into simple sugars and carefully stored in the honeycomb.

EVAPORATION

As bees fan their wings within the hive, they create a gentle airflow that causes the nectar to evaporate, transforming it into honey.

FRAME REMOVAL

Once the honey is capped, we remove the frames, uncap them, and place them in a centrifuge, which spins to release the honey from the comb.

Strain & Package

The honey is then carefully strained to remove any remaining wax or particles, bottled, labelled, and ready to enjoy. Meanwhile, we clean the wax to craft our natural lip balms and candles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Raw honey is honey in its pure, natural form, just as it exists in the beehive. It’s gently extracted from the honeycombs, strained through mesh to remove impurities like beeswax, and then bottled—no heating, no processing. This minimal handling preserves the honey’s natural nutrients, enzymes, and rich flavour, ready for you to enjoy straight from the jar.

Raw honey is more than a sweet treat. It’s a potent natural remedy with unique properties that support wellness. With its natural antioxidants, raw honey can help protect your cells from oxidative stress, which is linked to aging and numerous health conditions. This honey is also naturally antibacterial and antifungal, making it an ideal addition to your self-care routine.

Yes, crystallisation is a natural process that occurs in raw honey over time. To return it to a smooth, liquid state, simply place the jar in a bowl of warm water and allow the honey to gently warm until it becomes runny again—no nutrients lost, just back to its original texture.

Yes, it contains natural emulsifiers that lock in moisture, making it especially beneficial for soothing and hydrating dry or chapped lips.

Raw honey never expires. Its natural antibacterial proteins, enzymes, and high antioxidant content allow it to stay edible indefinitely. Even if it crystallises or darkens over time, raw honey retains its quality and benefits—nature’s sweetener, preserved forever.

Beeswax candles release negative ions that help neutralise pollutants in the air, making them effective at reducing mould, odours, and dust. This natural purification process can ease allergy and asthma symptoms, improving air quality and breathing.

Raw honey has a soothing effect on the digestive system and is often used as a natural remedy for digestive issues. Studies have shown that the enzymes in raw honey can aid in digestion, while its antibacterial properties may help protect the stomach lining. Yogi Bears Scottish Heather Honey

Heather honey is harvested in late summer when Scotland's iconic heather blooms. This honey has a distinctively sweet, floral aroma and a bold, tangy flavour profile, making it a favourite among honey enthusiasts.

A sustainable future for honey bees relies on the dedication and expertise of skilled bee farmers. To protect these essential pollinators, we must inspire and train the next generation to carry on this vital work.
